Plymouth Classic Boat Rally - 25th Anniversary

Sutton Harbour's annual gathering of classic boats - including Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter 'Cornubia'.

Tamar Devonian with 'Duke of Gloucester 71000' & 'Tornado 60163'

A selection of pictures from Saturday 28 July of the Tamar Devonian railtour. Firstly we see class 67 'Royal Sovereign' arriving at Bristol from Hampshire where the tour started. If every train was this length there'd be no overcrowding on our rail network and probably fewer cars on the road . .

Duke of Gloucester comes off shed to take up position on the front of the tour. Behind her, hidden by steam is A1 Pacific Tornado. These are the last 2 mainline express locomotives to be built - although nearly 60 years apart!

Ready for the off at Bristol.

On return to Bristol in the evening the steam loco's were replaced by the 67 for the journey back home.

Mid Hants Railway - 8th July 2012

A selection of pictures taken at the Mid Hants Railway. Firstly we see Class 50 number 50,027 'Lion' on shed at Ropley. Its worrying when they start to preserve items you remember in service. I remember seeing the 50's at Penzance on a regular basis in the late 80's!

West Country Class 34007 'Wadebridge' on shed at Ropley with 2MT number 41312

 Black 5 number 45379

 Southern 'U Class' 31806.

Britains Last Paddle Tug - John H Amos

Three paddle tugs survived into 'preservation'. Sadly, thanks to the National Maritime Museum's scrapping of the perfectly maintained Reliant only two remain - the Eppleton Hall in San Francisco (having voyaged across the Atlantic under her own power!) and the John H Amos which has remained closer to home.  Sadly un-restored we see her on the banks of the River Medway awaiting funding to be in place in order to save this unique historic vessel.

More details on her plight here - John H Amos and some shots of Eppleton Hall

MV Balmoral at Gravesend Pier.

A selection of pictures showing Balmoral's call at Gravesend recently re-opened pier on Saturday 7th July. In the background we see the cruise ship Marco Polo at Tilbury.

Preserved tugs at Chatham Maritime Marina

Chatham Maritime Marina has become base to a number of very well maintained preserved tugs.

PS Kingswear Castle Jazz Jamboree - Friday 6th July

A selection of images from a cruise on the Paddle Steamer Kingswear Castle on Friday 6th July. Having headed  East in search of some summer sun we were lucky and enjoyed a very pleasant evening, and bottle of wine onboard the former River Dart Paddle Steamer. Moored on the River Medway were a couple of very well kept Fisher motor sailers, a Fisher 31 and the familiar shape of a Fisher 25.
