Tug Brocklebank - Albert Dock Liverpool

At the Albert Dock we see the Mersey Maritime Museums tug Brocklebank looking resplendent in her original Alexandra Towing Company colours.

Built in 1964 the tug was based at Liverpool for all her working life before being retired to make way for more powerful tugs as the size of ships visiting the port increased.

Not only is she an important part of the Mersey’s maritime heritage it seems likely she will be the only 1960’s diesel ship handling tug to survive in preservation depicting an important development in the towage story which saw the final demise of steam. A number of tugs from the same era remain active in both the UK and warmer climes but few remain in original condition.
